New Delhi: A 30-year-old ambulance technician and a two-year-old child were killed while four others were seriously injured after the ambulance they were riding in rammed into a stationary truck on the DND Flyway in the early hours of Friday.

The two-year-old child, Saurabh, was being taken from Noida to the Safdarjung Hospital for treatment when the incident took place. The family members of Saurabh also sustained injuries in the incident. The police said that the truck driver and enforcement officials managed to flee with the vehicle after the incident.

According to the ambulance driver and another witness, the truck was flagged down at the check-post by a team of enforcement officials from the Delhi transport department, forcing the driver to suddenly slam the brakes.

“The ambulance coming from behind could not slow down and rammed into the truck,” said an eyewitness.

The deceased have been identified as Sunil Kumar (30), the paramedic officer, and Saurabh (2).

The police said that the ambulance driver, Vipin (25); Saurabh’s father, Suresh (35); his mother, Manno (32); and his brother, Shubham (4), sustained serious injuries and are still undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

According to a senior police official, the incident took place at around 3.15 am on Friday. “The injured were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where Sunil Kumar succumbed to his injuries while Saurabh was declared brought dead. Suresh, Manno, Shubham, and Vipin sustained serious injuries and they were referred to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where they are still undergoing treatment,” said the police official.

After the accident, both the truck driver and the team fled the spot. A case has been registered at the Mayur Vihar police station. “Police teams have initiated a manhunt to nab the accused truck driver and the enforcement officers who had carelessly flagged down the heavy vehicle leading to the crash,” said the police official.
