Demonetisation: Congress rallies in all 70 constituencies

New Delhi: Thousands of Delhi Congress supporters took to streets on Sunday and staged protests against demonetisation across the city condemning the move which has left common people in lurch highlighting difficulties faced in withdrawing change and exchanging old currency notes.

The “Jan Akrosh” rallies were held in resettlement and unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters, rural areas and villages as well as urban pockets in all the 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi. The rally headed by former Union minister Ajay Maken, the party’s Delhi unit chief, said that the decision, announced by PM Narendra Modi, has triggered “financial anarchy” and added that “the autocratic decision by one man to bolster his image has plummeted the whole country into a financial anarchy”.

He alleged a “big scam” behind demonetisation, saying it was a “ploy” to transfer the savings of the poor to the rich, which has brought the entire country “to a standstill”. The highlight of the rally was focused on how the public is going through “unbearable difficulties” due to the “complete unpreparedness” in the implementation of the decision. The “Jan Aakrosh March” was attended by other prominent leaders “like AICC in-charge of Delhi P.C. Chacko, ex-MLA Devender Yadav, Surender Kumar, Surender Pal Singh Bittoo, North MCD Opposition leader Mukesh Goel, district presidents Inderjeet Singh and Hari Kishan Jindal.

Voicing against the unpreparedness, the Delhi Congress workers will take out a march to the PM’s residence on November 23 in this regard, said Mr Maken. The party will also bring out a booklet titled “Note Pe Charcha” to explain to people the fallout of the “faulty implementation” of the measure.
