Delhi University ad-hocs to go on hungerstrike from November 23
We appeal our DUTA leadership to take up our issue to the highest level.
New Delhi: Continuing their agitation towards the alleged failure of Delhi University to appoint the ad-hoc teachers as permanent employees in the colleges, the ad-hoc teachers, along with the DU Teachers Association (Duta), have decided to go on a hungerstrike from November 22.
With some of the data withdrawn by the ad-hoc teachers, there are many colleges where appointments have not taken place in years. They have reiterated about the irregular appointments made in the university and alleged that the ad-hoc teachers have given up on their personal relations in their futile wait for permanent jobs in the varsity.
According to an ad-hoc teacher, the last appointment in Maitreyi College was made in the year 1991 while no appointments were made in any of the departments in Shivaji College after 1997.
“In Shaheed Bhagat Singh (Morning) College, the last appointment was made in 1989 when some of the ad hoc teachers were not even born... All ad-hoc teachers have become a part of a callous system willingly and unwillingly,” an ad-hoc teacher said.
While taking a step forward to work towards their own betterment, the teachers have now raised a serious concern against the issue by deciding to go on a hungerstrike starting November 22.
“We have become nothing more than statues in this entire mechanised system and we would not like to see our future generations suffer in this same malicious machinery.
We appeal our DUTA leadership to take up our issue to the highest level. This ruthless cycle can be stopped only if we work together and we can perhaps see a better future for our university,” the teacher added.
