She had to discontinue her studies over continued harassment and threat calls.
New Delhi: A software engineer was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly harassing a girl by using caller ID spoofing and creating a fake Facebook profile on her name. The victim is an undergraduate student of a DU college. She had to discontinue her studies over continued harassment and threat calls.
Aman Singh (23), a resident of Paschim Vihar, was arrested by the police from his home after the family members of a 20-year-old girl filed a complaint regarding harassment of their sister-in-law through social media sites and through threatening messages on phone.
An official said that a woman filed a complaint of harassment with her sister-in-law. She alleged that her sister-in-law met one Aman Singh in a college fest and both became friends, but after sometime her sister-in-law broke up the friendship. Thereafter, since October last year, one person started harassing her sister-in-law on social media sites.
“The mobile number, which reflected on the victim’s phone, was spoofed using an app,” said DCP (West) Vijay Kumar.
On February 16, Aman was arrested from his house. “The accused confessed to his crime and phones, laptops and other gadgets, used to harass the girl, have been recovered,” added the police official.
The accused is an IT engineer and he displayed all his technical skills to misguide the police. Even his parents misguided the police by hiding his present location, said the police.
