New Delhi: A 29-year-old Chennai-based businessman, who secretly filmed a video of a girl while she was changing clothes at a hotel in Kirti Nagar area, was arrested by the Delhi police on Wednesday.

Accused Deepak Bora, who deals in furniture business and was staying  at Jagir Hotel along with two of his friends, was caught red-handed while filming her on his mobile phone. The complainant,  a 23-year-old native of Ranchi, is a college student and she along with 140 other students and faculty members was in the city on an education tour. The group had checked in the hotel on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday morning, when the girl went inside the bathroom for a shower, she felt some movement near the open ventilation space common for bathrooms of adjoining room. Moving closer, she saw a mobile phone being held by someone from the other side.

She rushed out and immediately informed her teacher about it. Later, the teacher raised the matter with hotel staff and informed the police. The college principal took it up with the hotel authorities.

They went to Bora’s room and snatched his phone. Initially, the accused tried to mislead the police, claiming that he was sleeping and the act might have been committed by two of his friends who were also staying in the same room.  Their mobile phones were examined and as the police did not find anything suspicious, they were spared, but Bora was caught.

The police have seized his mobile phone and sent it for a forensic examination.

“The girl’s alertness led to the culprit’s arrest. The accused has been arrested under IPC sections of voyeurism and IT Act. A case has been registered at Kirti Nagar police station,” said Vijay Kumar, DCP (West).
