DMRC MD Mangu Singh looks on as the PSDs become operational at two Metro stations on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Bolstering the security infrastructure on its premises, the Delhi Metro on Wednesday made the platform screen doors (PSDs) operational at the Chawri Bazaar and Chandni Chowk Metro stations on the Yellow Line.

Four more Metro stations on the same line — New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate — will get PSDs shortly.

The installation and commissioning of the PSDs at these stations will be done in a phased manner after examining the performance of the one installed at the Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar Metro stations, a senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official said. This is the first time that PSDs have been installed at already operational Metro stations, the DMRC said.

At present, the Airport Express Line and and the newly-opened stretches of the Magenta and Pink Lines have PSDs at all their stations. All upcoming stations on these two lines (Pink, Magenta) will have PSDs i.e mechanised screens that act as barriers between the platform and the tracks.

The two Metro stations are located in crowded Old Delhi, and receive a huge footfall daily.
