New Delhi: In an alleged case of brutal attack and torture against a senior citizen over a property row, a man bit off his mother’s finger, smashed her head with a vessel multiple times and threw her out of the house in the national capital on April 19.

According to police, the incident took place in Southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar-1. Devi Rani (80) was alone at home when her eldest son, Manoj Arora, barged inside the house, held her by her hair and slapped her multiple times. When the woman tried to free herself, Manoj bit her finger off and hit her with a vessel before dragging her outside the house.

In her statement to the police, Devi Rani, wife of late Prabhu Dayal Arora, stated that she was inside the kitchen on the night of April 19 and was preparing dinner. Suddenly, Manoj barged inside the house and began abusing her. Without any provocation, he slapped her numerous times and brutally tortured her over a property tiff. Ms Rani further told the police that Manoj wanted her property and had been harassing her to give away the house that she has been living in.

The complainant also alleged that Manoj didn’t hear his mother’s repeated pleas of letting her go and dragged her outside the house.

He then bolted it from inside. It was the neighbours who alerted the police. A team visited the spot and took her to AIIMS Trauma Centre. Ms Rani has sustained injuries on her face, head, and teeth.

In his statement to the police, Ms Rani’s younger son, Amit Arora, said that it’s not the first time that their mother has been harassed. Based on the statement given by Amit and considering Ms Rani’s condition, the jurisdictional police has registered a case under Sections 323, 324, and 451 of the Indian penal code.
