Three held for false robbery complaint, steal Rs 15 lakh
The duo was interrogated separately at length and the police found contradictions in their statements.
New Delhi: With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi police has solved a false robbery case within six hours and recovered robbed cash worth Rs 15 lakh, four mobile phones, two wallets and a vehicle used in the commission of crime, said Rajeev Kumar additional DCP (Shahadra).
The accused persons were identified as Deepak (34), Sandeep (29) and Himanshu (19), all resident of Karawal Nagar. According to the police, on Wednesday, an incident regarding robbery of cash worth Rs 10 lakh at Karawal Nagar was received.
During probe, it was found that Varun Gupta had given a bag containing Rs10 lakh to Deepak and Himanshu to deliver the same to a third party.
They reached the factory premises at Shiv Vihar and said when they reached Kasturba Nagar underpass, four mobike-borne assailants blocked their way and assaulted them with a sharp-edged weapon and robbed the bag containing the cash, their mobile phones and wallets.
During probe, the police found that injuries seemed to be self-inflicted, which created some doubt. The duo was interrogated separately at length and the police found contradictions in their statements.
Himanshu later broke down and the duo admitted to the fake robbery. They added since they were in need of money, they planned in which they also involved Sandeep, Deepak’s brother, who escaped with the bag containing Rs 15 lakh, their mobile phones and wallets, the police said.
