Property owners get UPIC cards
The SDMC, taking a lead in this direction, has started providing UPIC number for all properties as per requirement of DMC Act.
New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started distribution of unique property identification code (UPIC) cards to property holders and launched the “Link Your Record” scheme.
Launching the initiative, SDMC mayor Shyam Sharma said that there are around 16 lakh properties under municipal jurisdiction of the corporation and it is supposed to collect property tax from all the property holders. Mr Sharma claimed that in order to ensure collection from all property holders and identify the name and details of those property holders who are not depositing property tax, it is essential to have a separate unique number for each and every property and this is mandatory as per law.
The SDMC, taking a lead in this direction, has started providing UPIC number for all properties as per requirement of DMC Act. The three first digits of the card will denote ward number, next four digits will denote colony number and remaining digits will specify the respective properties.
Initially, the UPIC Number is being provided to those properties which are under property tax net. Mr Sharma claimed that this will enable the department to know the details of each property.
