On scrutiny, it was found that the CDC of Panama was forged. The said CDC had been issued to one Philippines national earlier.
New Delhi: A man was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday night, when he was trying to fly to Iran via Sharjah. He was going as a seaman with Panama continuous discharge certificates issued from Manila.
On scrutiny, it was found that the CDC of Panama was forged. The said CDC had been issued to one Philippines national earlier.
“On the intervening night of Sunday, a passenger identified as Praveen Kumar, a resident of Saharanpur, UP, intended to depart to Iran via Sharjah on the Air Arabia flight (G9-464). He was going as a seaman with Panama CDC issued on December 12, 2016, from Manila valid until December 12, 2021. On scrutiny of the said documents, it was found that the CDC of Panama was forged and was issued to one Philippines national identified as Christian P Gonzales and valid from April 24, 2014. On further questioning, the accused revealed that he allegedly got the CDC through Suprit Tiwari, a seaman working as captain in Kolkata,” sources said The accused tried to cheat the Indian immigration by presenting the fake CDC. The police is investigating the matter and has filed a case under various sections of the IPC, said a senior police official.
“We are also examining the alleged role of Mr Tiwari, who allegedly provided the fake CDC to the accused,” the official added. In India, CDC is usually issued by authorities in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and is required by candidates who want to work in the shipping industry. “The agents would charge Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for the certificates, while a candidate would end up spending close to Rs 1 lakh to obtain the CDC legitimately,” said the sources.
