Delhi: Raped minor delivers baby in school toilet
The girl was repeatedly raped by auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Gaffar (51), who is also her neighbour.
New Delhi: Teachers and students at a government school in Northwest Delhi were left shocked on Thursday after a Class 10 student delivered a baby inside a school washroom. The minor, who was being allegedly raped for the last few months, was impregnated by the accused.
The accused, an auto-rickshaw driver, was arrested by the police on Friday. He has been identified as Abdul Gaffar (51). He was living in a rented accommodation in Northwest Delhi while his family lived in Bihar. The accused tried to hide the minor’s pregnancy by giving her an abortion pill. However, she ended up delivering a premature baby in the school’s washroom on July 20.
According to the police, the incident came to light when the minor was rushed to the hospital and a medical test was conducted. Even the parents of the minor were unaware of their ward being pregnant.
“The parents told the police that they thought their daughter was unwell and was having digestive issues. The minor herself was unaware about her pregnancy during the initial period. When she noticed a bump and complained to the accused of giddiness and nausea, the accused gave her the abortion pill,” said a police official.
The girl was repeatedly raped by Gaffar, who is also her neighbour. In a bid to keep the girl under his control, he would give the girl money. He would pay her between Rs 500 and 800. According to the police, the minor was raped more than five to six times by the accused at his rented accommodation.
On Thursday, the girl had gone to school to appear for her compartment exam. While she was writing the exam, she felt uneasy and rushed to the restroom where she delivered the baby preterm.
The school caretaker was the first to find her and the premature baby. He informed the school management, who in turn rushed her to a nearby hospital. After the medical test, the police was informed. The team visited the hospital and after the minor regained consciousness, her statement was recorded. She told the police that Gaffar would call her to his room and commit the crime.
Meanwhile, the accused learnt about the minor’s premature delivery and ran away from his house. He has been booked under Section 376 of the IPC and POCSO Act 2012.
