Delhi Police arrests convict released on furlough

New Delhi: A team of Delhi police crime branch arrested a dreaded gangster and a life convict. He was booked twice in Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. 

The 50-year-old had  jumped furlough after being sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case has been identified as Amrik Singh. Mr Singh had several cases, including murder, attempt to murder, etc, against him and was booked twice under MCOCA, said the police.

“In 1998, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. On March 9, he was released on furlough for a period of three weeks from Tihar Jail, but did not surrender even after the furlough had lapsed,” deputy commissioner of police (crime) R. Deo said. 

During his furlough, he threatened his cousin Rakesh at gunpoint and asked him to vacate a property in Mangolpuri area in Delhi. The police kept a lookout at all of the accused’s hideouts. On September 20, the police came to know that Mr Singh was hiding somewhere in Bharartpur, Rajasthan. 

A trap was laid and he was nabbed from near Murli Cinema in Bharatpur on Friday, the police officer said. During detailed interrogation, Mr Singh admitted that he was earlier associated with the Krishan Pehalwan gang. He had killed one Ved Parkash and was serving life sentence in that case, Mr Singh said. 

The dreaded gangster had also killed his niece and her husband. While he was in jail, he came to know that some of his relatives and rivals were making plans against him, the police officer said. He told the police that he had come out on furlough in order to settle scores with them, but did not surrender to the police, the DCP said.
