New Delhi: A day after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in a hotel room in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden on Saturday evening, the Delhi police said the two were relatives and allegedly committed suicide as their family members put pressure on them to end their illicit relationship.

K. Suresh (29), a native of Kerala, had gone to the city on October 15 along with his sister-in-law via Rajdhani Express. The two checked into a hotel on Friday morning claiming to be husband and wife. The deceased woman was on Sunday identified as the wife of one of Suresh’s cousins.

On Saturday evening, when they did not respond to the hotel staff, the police was called. When they broke open the door, the duo was found lying on the bed, apparently dead. On the day of Diwali, the woman and Suresh were seen together.

The husband of the woman and other members of the family suspected that the two were having an affair. A quarrel had ensued and both of them were asked to end their affair, the police said. It is suspected that the duo took the extreme step due to the humiliation.

During probe police found a suicide note addressed to Suresh’s mother in Malayalam. The three-line suicide note read that he was sorry and didn’t wish to live anymore. During investigation it was revealed that the couple had ordered breakfast around 9.30 am on Saturday. They had ordered parantha and curd, but it was left untouched.

A senior police officer said that it appears the two consumed some kind of poisonous substance to end their lives. While police handed over the bodies to the family of the deceased on Sunday, the team is waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the substance used by the alleged couple to kill themselves.
