New Delhi: A 35-year-old man allegedly raped a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in the Sarai Rohilla area. After sexual assault, the accused reportedly tried to murder the victim. The victim, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital, is said to be in a critical condition.

The accused allegedly raped her and left her critically injured in a deep pothole near her house under the jurisdiction of North Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla police station on Monday.
Based on the statement of the girl’s elder sister, the police apprehended the accused, who is a small time labourer, within hours of the minor girl’s alleged abduction.

“Thinking the minor girl to be dead, he picked up the girl’s body and dumped her in a deep pothole or pit along the Daya Basti railway tracks,” said a senior police official.
The police said that they apprehended the man since they found blood stains on his shirt.

“The accused was taken into custody late night on Monday. In an inebriated state, it was only around 6 am on Tuesday morning that he became a little sober and admitted to committing the crime. Once he disclosed where he did the heinous act, we took him to the spot and found the girl,” said a police official.

The incident took place barely 5 kilometers away from the spot where a four-year-old girl was alleged to have been sexually assaulted and murdered by unidentified persons in Northwest Delhi’s Keshavpuram area on Sunday night.

According to the police, the girl was playing with her elder sibling near her house in Anand Parbat’s Daya Basti area. The incident was reported at around 8:30 pm on Monday when the victim’s parents had gone out of the house, leaving behind their five daughters.

Their neighbour — the accused — approached the girls and offered the elder girl toffees. “By diverting her attention, he took the youngest child to an isolated spot where he sexually assaulted her,” said a senior police officer. The officer further said that within a few hours, the girl lost consciousness. Assuming she was dead, he picked up the body and carried it to another isolated spot.

It was only through the help of technical surveillance that one of the accused was identified. Based on the disclosure made by the accused, police took him to the spot where the girl was found covered in a pool of blood. A team of local police immediately rushed the minor girl to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital where she was stated to be in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO (protection of children from sexual offences) Act at the Sarai Rohilla police station. Further investigation is underway.
