5 arrested for throwing acid on 24-yr-old woman
The girl allegedly hatched a conspiracy to throw acid on the victim as she was envious of the victim's affair with a boy.
New Delhi: Four men and a woman have been arrested by the Sahibabad police for allegedly throwing acid on a 24-year-old woman at Mohan Nagar trisection on Tuesday.
According to the police, the accused woman was the victim’s roommate and her office colleague. She allegedly hatched a conspiracy with the other accused to throw acid on the victim as she was envious of the woman’s affair with a boy.
The police said that objective of the accused was to ruin the woman’s beauty.
Senior superintendent of police Vaibhav Krishna told reporters that the victim was employed in a bank and on March 20 morning, the accused allegedly threw acid on her, due to which she along with five others suffered burn injuries.
All of them were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident took place when the victims were waiting for transport buses and auto-rickshaws to reach their respective work places. Based of a tip-off, the police arrested the five accused, including the woman, from Bhopura trisection at Loni road on Friday.
During interrogation, the girl confessed that she and the victim were employed in a bank in Noida and were also sharing a room.
Meanwhile, the victim fell in love with a boy and started maintaining distance from her room mate, which left the accused woman envious. This led to heated arguments several times between the two and ultimately they ended their friendship. The accused girl said she was very annoyed and depressed due to her roommate’s “callous attitude” and decided to teach her a lesson.
She followed the woman daily to her work place in an auto-rickshaw and became acquainted with an auto driver, Lokesh and his helper Ravi.
The woman hatched a conspiracy with them to deface the woman by throwing acid on her so that her relationship with the boy could be ended.
The other accused agreed to throw acid on the victim after the accused woman accepted their demand of paying Rs 1 lakh. It was when they met to settle a part of the deal that the police arrested them.
Two other youths have also been nabbed for selling acid, which was thrown on the woman. Mr Krishna said the victim’s brother lodged an FIR against the accused girl, adding that all the accused have been sent to jail.
