New Delhi: Rejecting the demand to establish physical intimacy turned bloody for a 35-year-old man, on Wednesday late night, when his 22-year-old lover allegedly bobbitised his genitals with a kitchen knife.

The incident took place at the accused woman’s house in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area. Since the incident, the accused woman along with her family has fled the neighbourhood and is on the run.

The victim, a 35-year-old street vendor, was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH) where he is said to be out of danger. Doctors have told the police that the man has undergone surgery and his life has been saved.

According to the police, victim Ravi was allegedly attacked at his girlfriend’s house where he was called by her relatives at around 11.30 pm. When he reached their home, his girlfriend of four years broached the topic of marriage. Ravi refused her proposal, saying his family was against it.

In his statement to the police, Ravi stated that the woman then pushed him inside the bathroom, undressed him and forced him to have sex with her. She allegedly threatened him of dire consequences if he did not give in to her demand. Enraged at his refusal, the accused chopped off the victim’s genitals with a kitchen knife.

The victim said that the woman’s brother and sister-in-law were present in the house when the incident took place. He alleged that they did nothing to stop the woman from attacking him and were apparently goading the woman so as to “teach her boyfriend a lesson.”

The incident came to light when the victim, bleeding profusely, ran out of the house while crying for help. On hearing commotion, the neighbours came out and immediately called the police. However, by the time the police arrived, the man had collapsed and was unconscious. He was rushed to SGMH where he underwent a genital reattachment surgery. A case has been registered against the woman under Section 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the IPC.
