New Delhi: Celebrating Earth Hour, residents of Delhi-NCR on Saturday pledged to adopt eco-friendly modes of transport like cycling, carpooling. Earth Hour, which was observed on Saturday between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm, draws the attention of people towards the climate change effects.

To celebrate Earth Hour, a cyclathon and a walkathon was hosted by WWF-India. The event was hosted in Gurgaon and saw participation of over 1,000 people from across Delhi and NCR.

“For Earth Hour 2018 WWF-India has launched the #GIVEUP TO GIVE BACK initiative. The campaign aims to inspire organisations, institutions, and individuals to make the choice of curbing some habits, practices, and lifestyles that burden both our lives and the environment, thus inspiring them to choose alternatives to ‘connect to earth.’ The ‘Give Up’ initiative starts conversations at different levels and for different agendas and is a lens and tool that organisations can use for shifting organisational culture and behavioural change to economise operations and reduce costs. This is the choice to consume smart and ensure that the things we own don’t own us,” said a statement by WWF.

The cyclathon and walkathon, held for the first time in Gurgaon, covered approximately 20 km and saw more than 1,000 registrations.
