Drug cartel busted, heroin worth Rs 4 crore recovered

The police in its fight against drug suppliers busted several narcotic drugs cartels and sent various members of these cartels to jail.

New Delhi: The Delhi police busted an international drug cartel busted and arrested a key member of the gang has been arrested. Police said one kg of high-grade heroin worth Rs 4 crore in the global market was recovered.

A police team, under the supervision of ACP, Special Cell, Attar Singh busted the cartel. Gurveer Singh, 27, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab was arrested on Outer Ring Road, near Mukarba Chowk. Apart from Singh, people of Afghanistan and African origin are also part of the drug cartel, a police officer said.

During interrogation, Singh said the cartel members are involved in supply of high-grade heroin in Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Heroin is smuggled from Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said he used to get heroin from persons of Nigerian origin residing in Uttam Nagar.

The police recovered consignments of drugs, including heroin and opium among others. During the past one year, the police recovered more than 80 kg heroin.

He also disclosed that couriers from Afghanistan and Pakistan used to supply heroin to them.

These couriers used to bring the drug into the country by consuming heroin capsules. They used to hand over the heroin to persons of African origin in the capital for onward supply to drug dealers in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana among other states.

“The heroin supplier in this case has been identified,” added a senior police officer.
