New Delhi: Two assistant sub-inspectors were reportedly assaulted by unruly men in separate incidents in Nihal Vihar and Begumpur police station areas on Thursday. In the first incident, a policeman was assaulted by two men in a Santro car in Nihaal Vihar.

The police said that in the first incident, Nitesh, a resident of Nangloi, was on his way to Rishel Garden when he was assaulted by two men. According to the complaint, Nitesh was on his bike when a Santro car rammed into his bike from the rear. Nitesh flagged the duo down and immediately informed the police.

Soon, a PCR van reached the spot and took the suspects to a nearby police booth. While Nitesh was moved to a nearby hospital, one of the car-borne men called his friends to the police booth. Following this high drama prevailed inside the booth when the gang began abusing the on-duty assistant sub-inspector (ASI), identified as Ram Nivas.

According to the police, Ram Nivas was assaulted, abused, and the unruly gang tore his uniform. He was mercilessly beaten and was left in an unconscious state. The police was informed but by the time it reached the spot, the gang had fled.

The police has registered a case and is on the lookout for the gang.

In a similar incident, an ASI was beaten by a frenzied mob in Rohini district’s Begumpur area when the cop had gone there to attend a call. The police said that Vijendra, an ASI attached to Begumpur police station, was out patrolling on Wednesday night when he heard someone cry for help. As he neared the spot, he found a woman being beaten. When he went to rescue her, a gang allegedly charged an attack on Vijendra and beat him mercilessly.

The incident came to light when a passerby informed the police, who visited the spot and moved Vijendra to a nearby hospital.

Both the cases have been registered.
