DDA to provide basic facilities before launching new flats

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has decided to ensure all the basic amenities and transport connectivity in localities where its flats exist before launching any housing scheme.

The DDA is expected to launch a scheme by the end of March of flats which were earlier surrendered by the allottees citing poor infrastructure and connectivity.

According to a senior DDA official, the land owning agency will write to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to improve bus frequency in areas or introduce new routes in colonies which are still not on its map.

It will also write to Mother Diary to open milk and vegetable and fruit outlets.

Under the proposed scheme, the authority will offer 13,000 flats at locations such as Sarita Vihar, Jasola, Dwarka, Pitampura, Sukhdev Vihar, Narela, Rohini, Jahangirpuri, Loknayak Puram, Dilshad Garden, Paschim Vihar, Bindapur, and Mukherjee Nagar.

A senior official said that all of these flats were offered in the previous housing schemes of the DDA but were later on surrendered by allottees citing poor infrastructure, connectivity, and other facilities.

A total of 11,544 flats were surrendered or allotments cancelled for various reasons.

“We have received feedbacks from various quarters regarding the non-availability of grocery shops or milk booth in the vicinity. At some locations, the nearest Mother Dairy booth available was six kilometre away. The DDA is making every possible effort to launch the housing scheme in March by ensuring everything in place,” he said.

The DDA believes that the DTC should not have much issue with their request as at some locations, bus service is already available and the corporation will just need to increase the frequency of bus availability.

“The tendering process to allot shops in housing complexes and their vicinity has already been initiated. We hope vendors will also move there well in time,” he added.
