Indefinite strike by students, doctors from April 2
This goes to say that all arguments by the government's are hollow and its intention is malafide and harmful, he added.
New Delhi: Several medical students and doctors will go on an indefinite strike on April 2 to oppose the suggested recommendations by the Parliamentary Standing Committee in the NMC Bill.
More than 25,000 doctors from all over the country convened at the Indira Gandhi Stadium for a doctors “mahapanchayat” on Sunday.
India Medical Association (IMA) national president Dr Ravi Wankhedkar said, “There is no need for the government to impose any law if they only want to boost AYUSH, homeopathy, pharmacists and dentists. This will lead to the allopathy doctors across the country to disband automatically.”
Stating that the proposed advisory will only create nuisance rather than solving the actual issue, he said, “The changes suggested are cosmetic in nature. Dissolving the autonomous body and appointing a new commission will be against the welfare of the medical professionals.”
Practicing homeopathy and AYUSH in its purest form and not mixing it with modern medicine practice will sustain better healthcare among the masses, he said.
Dr Vinay Aggarwal, coordinator of the Doctors’ Mahapanchayat emphasised on the violence against the doctors and insisted that the “problems faced by the doctors is enough, now it’s payback time”.
Declaring the hospitals as safe zones was one of the issues discussed on Sunday.
The IMA also demanded for “no criminal prosecution” for minor clinical errors.
“The NMC is a pro-private management Bill paving the way for widespread corruption. Medical education in the country will become expensive thus placing the lower socio-economic groups at a great disadvantage. Rural healthcare is improve only by starting new government medical colleges and wisely deploying the medical manpower. All measures initiated by the medical council to incentivise the young MBBS graduates with additional marks for PG selection by serving in the rural areas has not yet been accepted by any of the states,” secretary general, IMA, Dr R.N. Tandon, said.
