BJP slams government on desilting of drains
Gupta said that a master plan of drainage system was recommended as part of the Master Plan 2001 of Delhi, for which the government was responsible.
New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition and senior Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta has said that showers before the monsoons have exposed the claims of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of desilting of drains in the national capital. During these showers there was not a single area in Delhi where there was no water logging issue. Mr Gupta said that a master plan of drainage system was recommended as part of the Master Plan 2001 of Delhi, for which the government was responsible. But the government, he said, has failed to fulfil its responsibility and no concrete action has been taken so far.
He has written more than once to the Delhi government about the measures required to save Delhi from the problem of waterlogging. But the CM is only politicising the issue by putting the blame on other institutions.
He said that the Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) make only cosmetic desilting of nallahs and sewerage system in their jurisdiction, which causes waterlogging in the city.
There is a huge scandal in Delhi every year in the name of de-silting the nallahs and cleaning the drains, which is suppressed at higher levels for unknown reasons.
In a letter written to the lieutenant-governor, Mr Gupta has demanded that an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch be ordered to find out the amount of money spent in the last three years on desilting/cleaning of nallahs.
