New Delhi: The next time you strike an online deal for a second hand purchase on OLX, be careful. You may be on the target of online thugs. In one such instance, a 19-year-old student from Gokulpuri was allegedly robbed of his bike by two men, who on the pretext of taking a test drive, made away with the bike.

The thugs not only took the victim’s bike, but also his mobile phone that they had borrowed on the pretext of making a call. The incident left cops quizzing as to what charges should be pressed against the offenders as they neither snatched the items nor robbed those. It was taken by them with the victim’s permission. However, after taking legal opinion, the cops registered a case under breach of trust and registered a case.

It all began when the Class 12 student, Suhail, posted an advertisement to sell his Yamaha R-15. He received a call on June 22 from a youth who showed interest in buying his bike.

Suhail had priced his bike at '55,000. The caller asked him to reduce the rate and after mutual agreement, the deal was sealed at Rs 48, 000.

According to the complainant, the caller asked him to come with the bike at Wazirabad Road. As scheduled, he reached the spot at 6 am and met his buyer. In his complaint Suhail stated that two youths came to the spot. They were around 19 to 20 year old. While one of them asked for the key to take a test ride, the other asked Suhail to lend his mobile as he had run out of balance and wanted to make a call to arrange for the cash to be paid.

Falling for their trap, Suhail handed over the key and his mobile. By the time he could understand their modus operandi, the duo fled the spot with Suhail’s bike and mobile.

The Gokulpuri police has registered a case in this connection and are probing further.
