New Delhi: A 29-year-old woman was strangled by her father in a fit of rage at their house in South-west Delhi’s Dwarka.

The incident was reported on Friday and the girl’s father had not informed the cops regarding the incident, which raised suspicion about their involvement in the crime.

The police said that they received a call regarding the incident from the hospital where the girl was taken. She was declared dead on arrival.

The police said that the woman, identified as Shweta, was alone in her room around midnight when her father went inside and had an argument over some issue. The woman apparently did not want anyone to bother her while she was studying. She often had fights with her father.

The police said that the woman had recently completed her MBA and was now preparing for the UPSC examinations. She was under depression and often started fighting with her family members over trivial issues.

On Friday night as the man, Balwant Singh (62), went inside the room, the girl asked him to leave and not bother her. Enraged by her response, the accused strangled her.

However when the police was informed by the hospital staff, no one from the family informed the cops about the incident. When Singh was questioned, he told the cops that an unidentified person attacked her while they were inside their room and refused when asked if he suspects anyone.

This raised the cops’ suspicion about involvement of Singh in his daughter’s murder.

“There were injury marks on the girl’s face and neck which indicate that she was beaten up before being strangulated,” said a senior police official. “We registered a case under sections of murder and took up investigations into the matter,” he added.
