CM Arvind Kejriwal, DCW chief inspect city toilets

New Delhi: After inspecting several toilets, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sought an explanation from DUSIB CEO and directed him to take immediate action to ensure proper upkeep of the toilets.

Further, the DUSIB CEO was directed to regularly inspect the toilets and set up a system to ensure proper monitoring of the toilets.

Mr Kejriwal made surprise inspections at four toilet complexes in the national Capital on Saturday.

He was accompanied by DCW chief Swati Maliwal during the visits.

“These toilets were in Chattarpur, Ghazipur and Geeta Colony. The chief minister was livid to observe that toilets in Chattarpur were built beautifully but were presently unoperational. The toilet in Geeta Colony was extremely dirty. Further, the toilet in Ghazipur was being cleaned at the time of the visit. The chief minister was deeply dismayed at the state of the toilets,” an official statement said. It was learnt by the chief minister that the contractor who is given the contract for the upkeep and maintenance of toilets does not properly engage safai karamcharis due to which toilets remain dirty.

“The chief minister sought an explanation from DUSUB CEO and directed him to take immediate action to ensure proper upkeep of the toilets. Further, DUSUB CEO was directed to regularly inspect the toilets and set up a system to ensure proper monitoring of the toilets,” the statement added.

The DCW chief stated, “During inspections by DCW, it was learnt that upkeep of toilets are not proper. The chief minister himself decided to inspect some toilets to get proper feedback directly from the people. He was very angry at the state of affairs and has ordered immediate action.”
