NRI accuses seaman of rape in city hotel, 1 held
In her complaint the 22-year-old student stated that she had come to the city three months ago on study tour and had stayed in a hotel in Paharaganj.
New Delhi: An Indo-American national has accused a Merchant Navy officer of allegedly raping her at a hotel in Central Delhi’s Paharganj area.
In her complaint, the 22-year-old student stated that she had come to the city three months ago on study tour and had stayed in a hotel in Paharaganj. She added that the accused, identified by her as Jaswant, works in Merchant Navy. During her stay in the hotel, Jaswant befriended her and allegedly raped her.
According to police, the complainant lodged a rape complaint with the Paharganj police on Friday following which the accused Jaswant has been arrested and is being questioned by the police.
Speaking to this correspondent, additional deputy commissioner of police, central district, Anto Alphones confirmed the arrest. “We have arrested Jaswant based on the girl’s complaint. She told the police that Jaswant had raped her inside a hotel in Paharganj on May 17. She then left for Punjab for her tour and after the return approached the police and filed a complaint,” he said.
She has claimed that she first came to India in December and then returned to India as part of educational tour.
