Nigerian arrested with heroin worth Rs 15 crore
The Nigerian national has disclosed that apart from Indians, persons of Afghan and African origin are also part of the said drug cartel.
New Delhi: Delhi police special cell has busted an international narcotic drug cartel. A key member of the cartel, Ekene Kenneth Onyetobe (33), has been arrested from Ring Road near ISBT Kashmere Gate. High grade heroin worth Rs 15 crore in the international market was recovered from him.
The Nigerian national has disclosed that apart from Indians, persons of Afghan and African origin are also part of the said drug cartel.
Reportedly, the special cell has recovered more than 100 kg high grade heroin in the last one year.
On Sunday, an information was received at the special cell that Onyetobe was going to ISBT Kashmere Gate to deliver a consignment of heroin to a drug dealer in Punjab.
A team was constituted and a trap was laid near ISBT Kashmere Gate. Based on the identification of a secret informer, he was apprehended with the help of the members of the raiding party. While searching, police recovered 3 kg high grade heroin from his shoulder bag.
The accused was thoroughly interrogated. He disclosed that he used to work with another Nigerian national, whose supplier was based in Afghanistan. According to him, heroin is being smuggled in India from Afghanistan through Pakistan and J&K. The Afghan couriers used to hand over the consignment of heroin to these persons of African origin in Delhi. Heroin was being further supplied to drug dealers in Delhi and Punjab. They also used to send consignments to other countries such as England, France, Canada, and South Africa through courier companies.
Further efforts are being made to identify the other persons involved in the racket from Delhi and Punjab and to unearth the whole syndicate.
The accused came to India in 2015 and started a business at Erode in Tamil Nadu.
