Yellow Line snag delays trains for hrs on rakhi day

New Delhi: It was a harrowing Raksha Bandhan for thousands of Delhi Metro commuters, who were trapped in the Yellow Line coaches in the morning hours of Sunday owing to a technical glitch.

Commuters stuck in the coaches took to social media to complain about the inconvenience on a day the Delhi Metro had informed that it would run extra trains to handle the increased footfall on Raksha Bandhan.

Moreover, harrowed commuters complained of claustrophobia inside the packed coaches.

In a video that went immensely viral, passengers were seen walking beside the Metro track towards the platform after a train got stuck at the Guru Dronacharya Metro station in Gurgaon.

In another video, a huge crowed was seen below the Qutub Minar Metro station.

A commuter shared a photo of a huge line at the Chhatarpur Metro station, saying that it was a stampede waiting to happen.

Train services on Yellow Line (Line 2), between Chhattarpur and Huda City Centre section were affected on Sunday from 9.55 am to 12.40 pm due to a problem in the overhead wire (OHE) leading to tripping of power supply in this section, said a DMRC official.

As a result, passengers from four trains, which were in this section, had to be deboarded, the official said.

Thereafter, physical identification for the exact location of defective overhead wire was carried out by the maintenance team as they walked on foot across the section.

“Once the affected location was identified at 1200 hrs, the repair was done within 15 minutes and OHE supply to the affected section was restored at 12.15 pm. Gradually, the normal services were resumed at 12.40 pm. During this period, train services on the rest of Line 2 section, from Samayapur Badli to Qutab Minar, were running normally,” the official said.
