New Delhi: In a horrific incident, a 20-year-old youth was shot dead allegedly by an unidentified man after the victim made fun of his dance moves during a Valmiki Jayanti procession near Mandir Marg.
The deceased was identified as Avinash Sangwan. The incident took place a few metres away from the police station on Wednesday night.

Sangwan got into an argument with the accused after he made fun of his dance moves, a senior police officer said.
A case was registered in the matter and a probe is underway, DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said. Police said Sangwan was also carrying a knife with him.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, the DCP said. The incident took place on Wednesday evening amid heavy police deployment in the area.
The victim’s family alleged that they did not get any help from the police in taking him to the hospital and had to stop a passing car for help.
The police said the victim has been identified as Avinash Sangwan, a resident of Garhi village in Amar Colony, who was employed at a private firm. He was dancing and got into an argument with someone.
Avinash’s father, Brahm Sangwan, who works with the Delhi Jail Board, said that his son went with his cousin and later his nephew called from the hospital and informed about the tragedy.
According to information, the victim and his cousin were dancing in a circle when a man also started dancing with his brother. Soon, his brother started copying the other’s steps and made fun of him. The man then went away and returned after 15 minutes. On his return, he touched the feet of his victim’s brother and then shot at him.
