2 arrested for circulation of fake Indian currency

The police apprehended the duo after Enamul and another person exchanged packets, containing fake currency notes.

New Delhi: The Delhi police special cell on Tuesday arrested two persons involved in circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) in the denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500. A total Rs 1.7 lakh fake currency notes have been seized.

The accused have been identified as Enamul Miyan (31) alias Rinku and Mohd. Khalilullah Biswas (39), both residents of Malda district, West Bengal. On specific information that a syndicate involved in circulation of fake currency notes was active in Jama Masjid area, the police constituted a team.

Following a tip off, a trap was laid near the Jama Masjid. Enamul was to come near Urdu Bazar, Jama Masjid to hand over a consignment of fake currency notes to his associate at around 03:00 pm on Sunday. The police apprehended the duo after Enamul and another person exchanged packets, containing fake currency notes. Upon searching Mohd Khalilullah a packet containing 50 fake currency notes of Rs. 2,000 and 100 notes of Rs. 500 were recovered.

Upon searching Enamul, the police seized two packets, one containing 40 '500 fake currency notes and another containing original notes of '75,000. When questioned, he told the police he sold the packet of fake notes worth Rs 1.5 lakh to Mohd. Khalilullah.
