The accused attempted to kill Subhra Mukherjee by slashing her throat.
New Delhi: A 74-year-old woman was brutally attacked, gagged and robbed in her Sarita Vihar house by her former dog trainer along with one other man who visited her on the pretext of seeing her dog. The accused attempted to kill Subhra Mukherjee by slashing her throat. Later, the men ran away with gold ornaments worth several lakhs.
The incident took place in Sarita Vihar’s C-Block on Wednesday afternoon while the elderly woman was alone at home. Her daughter, who is said to be an employee of the Ficci, had gone for work when the assailants struck at her house.
According to the police, one of the attackers was known to the victim and has been identified as Subhash. Subhash, who used to take out Ms Mukherjee’s pet for walks, was dismissed earlier. Police said that Ms Mukherjee was watching television when the door bell rang.
When she answered the bell, she found Subhash and one other man at her doorstep. When she asked him the reason for his visit, he allegedly said that he had come to ask about the pet dog as he misses him. By the time Ms Mukherjee could answer, Subhash along with his accomplice, put chloroform laced handkerchief on her nose following which she collapsed. They then snatched away her gold chain, gold ring, watch, and gold earrings.
When Ms Mukherjee regained consciousness, she tried to raise an alarm. Scared of getting caught, the duo gagged her and tried to strangulate her with a cloth.
Ms Mukherjee, who was fighting her attackers, didn’t give up and continued to put up a brave front. In haste, the attackers slashed her throat. She ran for her safety and locked herself inside another room. With the help of a saree, the attackers managed to get down from the balcony and escaped with the valuables.
The incident came to light when neighbours called Ms Mukherjee’s daughter who rushed home and took her mother to Apollo Hospital. The doctors there alerted the police, who then visited Ms Mukherjee and registered a complaint.
Jurisdictional police has registered a case in this connection and have launched a manhunt to nab the fleeing accused.
