4-storey building collapses in Karol Bagh, no casualty

Old, dilapidated building was empty at the time of incident.

New Delhi: A four-storey commercial building collapsed in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area on Wednesday morning, Delhi Fire Service said, adding that a rescue operation took place to look for any casualty.

However no one was injured in the incident.

The building, situated at Padma Singh Road in Karol Bagh’s Dev Nagar area collapsed, said chief fire officer Atul Garg.

He further said that four fire tenders were rushed to the spot including two rescue responders for the operations along with a team of NDRF.

Fire department received a call around 8.40 am, he said. A local police station team also rushed to the spot.

Prima facie probe revealed that the building was old and ill-maintained.

It was used to house some offices and shops and was empty at the time of the incident.

The ground floor of the building houses shops. However, there was no occupancy on the four floors of the building, the officer said.

Operations are underway to ascertain if anyone is trapped inside the building.

No casualty has been reported in the incident so far, officials said.
