According to police, the couple often indulged in fights. Recently, a domestic violence complaint was filed against the man by his wife. It is suspected that a similar fight could have taken place between the couple on Friday, which instigated them to end their lives, police said, adding that no suicide note was found from the house.
The deceased man was identified as Gulshan Das while his 32-year-old wife was identified as Sunita and his elderly mother was identified as Kanta.
The couple got married in February earlier this year. It was a second marriage for both of them and they had no children, police said.
DCP (Southwest) Devender Arya said that they received a PCR call on Friday night at around 10.59 pm from Sunita’s mother, Krishna Devi, who alleged domestic violence at house number B-17 inside the IIT campus.
“Our team rushed to the house and found the door open. When we entered the house, we found two women and a man hanging in three different rooms. While the lab assistant was hanging from an overhead rod in a corridor, the two women were found hanging from ceiling fans in the two bedrooms. Crime and forensics teams were called on the spot. No suicide note has been found so far. The trio did not have any external injuries and the bodies were moved to Safdarjung hospital,” DCP Arya said.
The woman, who had made the police call, is the lab assistant’s mother-in-law. She lives in West Delhi’s Naraina.
The officer said preliminary enquiry suggests that the couple often had altercations. “We are questioning relatives and neighbours of the couple and the elderly woman to ascertain what led to frequent arguments between them.
It was also revealed that merely after two months of their marriage, the woman had filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband at Naraina police station.
