New Delhi: High drama prevailed in Narela during Chhath Puja on Thursday after organisers allegedly resorted to caning the public over mismanagement during the function. The matter slipped out of hand when, during the programme, the lights went off. The programme was organised by renowned singer Khesari Lal.

The incident took place in Narela on Thursday night. It all began when the organisers failed to handle the large mob, which had swelled to see the programme. A turnout of not more than a few hundred was expected, but the crowd kept growing. The committee had not anticipated such a huge crowd. As a result, the organisers couldn’t handle the large gathering. Mea-nwhile, a few set of people, who had gone to see the program-me, began accusing the organisers of poor management.

By the time the matter could be handled, the lights went off thus resulting in a stampede. To control the mob, the organisers resorted to caning the people. The deputy mayor of East Delhi, Vijay Bhagat, was among the dignitaries who attended the programme. It is said that the irate mob even threw shoes at the deputy mayor, who failed to control the organisers.

Clarifying his stand, the deputy mayor said that the mob had gone berserk over the issue of power failure.
