Beating Retreat: Cops issue advisory
The senior police officer said that Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi traffic police issued a traffic advisory for Beating Retreat ceremony and illumination of Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 29.
Garima Bhatnagar, joint commissioner of police, traffic, said, “Elaborate traffic arrangements have been made for Beating Retreat and illumination of Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, Parliament House on January 29 as part of the Republic Day celebrations.”
“Traffic restrictions and diversions planned for January 29 will remain in force from 3.30pm to 9:30pm with several people descending around India Gate,” she added.
The senior police officer said that Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic.
Also, traffic will not be allowed on following stretches such as Rafi Marg between R/A Sunehri Masjid and R/A Krishi Bhawan. Raisina Road from R/A Krishi Bhawan towards Vijay Chowk. Beyond R/A Dara Shikoh Road, R/A Krishna Menon Marg and R/A Sunehri Masjid towards Vijay Chowk. Rajpath between Vijay Chowk and “C” – Hexagon, which will be totally pedestrian, she added.
Hence general public and motorists are advised to take alternate routes i.e. Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Madarsa ‘T’ Point, Safdarjung Road, Kemal Ataturk Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, Minto Road etc to reach their destinations, Ms Bhatnagar said.
Similarly, Delhi Transport Corporation buses and other city buses shall be diverted from their normal routes from 1:00pm. to 9:30pm on January 26, 27, 28 and 29 respectively to facilitate the vehicles of invitees and spectators and to avoid traffic congestion on roads around the venue of the ceremony and India Gate, Ms Bhatnagar informed.
