Four arrested for theft of Magenta Metro cables

New Delhi: In a major catch, Delhi Metro Police arrested four members of a gang of cable thieves who made away with cables running in Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line-8.
The arrested have been identified as Dilshad, 22, Ali Hasan, 23, Imran, 27 and Saddam, 24. One country pistol and two live 8mm cartridges were recovered possession of Ali Hasan, while one country pistol and two live cartridges of 7.65mm were recovered from Dilshad.
The four operated in Metro Line-8 (Magenta Line) from the past one month. Dilshad and Ali Hasan posed as the ex-labourers of a project company of DMRC.
According to DCP, Metro, Pankaj Singh, during past month many incidents of cable thefts were reported, due to which the the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation faced difficulties to continue (Magenta Line-8) Metro operations.
“On March 7, a DMRC official Praveen Gupta filed five cases of cable theft online reported to have occurred from January 23 to March 5 in Okhla Vihar Metro. Cables of dimensions such as, 3.3 kv, 25 kv and 33 kv, were stolen from the over head track of Metro on Magenta Line (Kalindi Kunj depot, both entry and exit line). Investigation of these cases is being taken up.”
He added that a team was has been constituted under the supervision of Inspector Rajeev Kumar, in-charge of special staff, Metro.
“The sources were deployed and traps were laid on the different locations from where the cab le theft was committed. On a tip-off, all four accused were held near Kalindi Kunj depot, while they were about to put the stolen DMRC cable in a tempo. Efforts are on to arrest the co-accused and recover the remaining cables, Mr Singh said.
