New Delhi: Amid allegations and complaints of irregularities in the functioning of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju on Tuesday warned the civic leaders to improve their working or face the bitter consequences.

According to a party insider there are some allegations of financial irregularities, which have cropped up against  the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top leaderships in the NDMC.

He said that Mr Jaju held a meeting with the corporation functionaries and warned them that such things will not be tolerated and that they will have to work with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of clean and transparent governance.

In the meeting, NDMC mayor Preety Agarwal, chairman standing committee Tilakraj Kataria, leader of house Jaynedra Dabas were present along with some other officials.

“Mr Jaju told the civic officials that the party leadership was not happy with the allegations of irregularities, especially the one concerning finances.

He also pointed out that complaints have been received against several of them that transfer and posting of officials are being done as favours and the same should be stopped immediately,” he added.

Sources said that Mr Jaju, who was angry with the development, asked the deputy mayor to control irregularities at the earliest.

Interestingly, a meeting was called without knowledge of Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, who was at the time attending the opening ceremony T20 ‘Yamuna Challenge Trophy’ organised by the party with union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

When asked about the meeting, Mr Tiwari said that he was unaware of any such meeting and would comment only after checking with the party leaders.

He said, “There are some problems within the functioning of the NDMC and Mr Jaju had discussed the issue with the civic leadership”.

After meeting, Mr Jaju said, “There are some issues and we discussed them in a bid to resolve at the earliest. Nothing should be read between the lines”.
