Labourer killed as slab falls on him
2 others who rushed to his rescue have been injured.
New Delhi: Panic prevailed after a lantern (a square, curved, or polygonal structure on the top of a dome or a room with the sides glazed or open so as to admit light) of an under construction building caved in, while removing it in Gaurav Nagar’s Prem Nagar area on Thursday morning.
Police said that a 28-year-old labourer died in the mishap.
The incident took place at around 9.45am in Gaurav Nagar’s Prem Nagar area under Aman Vihar police station limits.
The deceased labourer has been identified as Ram Gopal alias Guddu, a resident of Janta Enclave in the same area.
Investigation revealed that construction work was underway on a one-storey building in the area.
At the time of the incident, Ram Gopal was working inside the building near the staircase and was fixing the lantern.
While removing the lantern to set it, the deceased had removed the wooden logs supporting the lantern when it collapsed on him burying him under the debris, according to the police..
The police said that hearing a loud thud, two other labourers working on the construction site and busy fixing the lantern for the loft, came immediately to help the deceased. They sustained major injuries.
Meanwhile, the police was informed, who then rushed to the spot and with the help of locals took out a critically injured Ram Gopal from the debris.
The deceased was then rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The police has registered a case of death due to negligence against the supervisor and is questioning him.
A case has been registered in the Aman Vihar police station and investigation in the case is underway.
