CM Kejriwal seeks L-G appointment to discuss sealing

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Monday, wrote to lieutenant-governor (L-G) Anil Baijal, seeking to meet him on Tuesday along with all BJP and AAP MLAs, MPs, and councillors in the national capital to find a solution for the sealing issue.

Mr Kejriwal’s letter came hours after Delhi BJP general secretary, Ravinder Gupta, wrote to him saying the party’s Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari, and its MPs and MLAs will go to the CM’s residence at 9 am on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing sealing drive.

Meanwhile, within hours after seeking time for the meeting with the CM, the Delhi BJP on Monday considered meeting the L-G directly over the issue.

The decision to not meet the CM was taken after Mr Kejriwal wrote to Mr Baijal that he along with the Delhi BJP delegation and all the MLAs and councillors of AAP will come to meet the L-G at 9.30 am on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP general secretary Ravinder Gupta had written to Mr Kejriwal and informed him that a delegation of BJP leaders led by Mr Tiwari would reach his residence to discuss the sealing issue.

“BJP leaders will demand immediate notification of 351 roads pending with Delhi government, discuss the ways to stop the sealing, and ask the Delhi government to move the Supreme Court in the matter,” Mr Gupta wrote.

He informed Mr Kejriwal that the delegation will include BJP Lok Sabha members from the city, MLAs, the three general secretaries, and mayors of the three municipal corporations.  

Responding to Mr Kejriwal’s letter, a senior Delhi BJP leader said that the chief minister was not serious about the important issue concerning the Delhiites and was passing the buck onto the L-G. “Through his letter to the L-G, Mr Kejirwal shows that he is incompetent. So, BJP has now decided to meet the lieutenant-governor — the competent authority — instead of the chief minister,” he added.    

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP have levelled allegations against each other over the issue.
