Delhi Police to introduce upgraded HimmatPlus app soon
The HimmatPlus would act as a deterrent to crimes against women, he added.
New Delhi: The Delhi police will soon introduce the upgraded version of women’s safety app, HimmatPlus, with a wide range of safety features in the city, including all railway and Metro stations
“The upgraded Himmat Plus, a mobile application available in Hindi and English has a special feature for scanning the QR codes of taxis, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws to verify their details.
It was launched as a pilot project, the women’s safety app can be currently used by the women commuters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and five Metro stations — Anand Vihar, Vishwavidyalaya, Malviya Nagar, Saket and Nehru Place.”
Sanjay Beniwal, special commissioner, Delhi police said for women safety, while speaking at a seminar titled “safer road transportation to promote national tourism”, said “The app would act as a deterrent to crime against women. It would also empower and make them more confident, especially while travelling. Women are vulnerable while travelling and when they board a taxi or an auto-rickshaw, they do not know if it is safe.”
“This upgraded app will empower them and boost their confidence while travelling,” Mr Beniwal Said “The app has been transformed from an Emergency Safety app to an “Utility” one. With upgraded features and user-friendly interface, the app is no longer restricted to just being an emergency app,” he said.
“The process of registration has also been simplified. Now anybody can download it on their mobile phones unlike the previous app for which one had to visit the Delhi police’s website to download it,” he added.
“The Facebook page of the Delhi traffic police and their Twitter handle have also been linked to the app to provide traffic updates and other relevant information. That upgraded app has also been linked with Delhi police GPS system. The HimmatPlus would act as a deterrent to crimes against women,” he added.
“The details of taxi drivers at the Delhi Airport and auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers were collected and fed into the server of the Himmat Plus app,” he said .
Each driver has been provided with a “QR card” to be placed in their vehicle, which can be scanned by the commuter in order to establish the driver’s authenticity” Mr Beniwal added.
