Cops hunt for conman, file FIR
Accused posed as BJP leader's secy, offered big posts in party.
New Delhi: The special cell of the Delhi police has registered an FIR against a conman, claiming to be the political secretary of the BJP national general secretary Ram Lal, for attempting to dupe people on the pretext of offering them big posts in the saffron party and demanding money.
Though the police conducted several raids in this respect, they failed to nab the accused. A senior police official privy to the investigation said on the condition of anonymity that the accused, identified as Deepak Kumar, had been calling people using a mobile number for a long time.
“He offered big posts to aspirants in BJP and demanded money. He told the people that he was calling from the office of Ram Lal ji, the national general secretary of BJP. The accused also told the people that he was the principal secretary to Mr Lal. A few people, who received a call from the accused, approached the head office of BJP where they came to know that they were being duped,” the source said.
The source further added that the leaders in the BJP head office were worried by the gravity of the situation. They discussed the matter among themselves as the accused was trying to tarnish the image of the party and its leader and decided to lodge a case.
Finally, Vikash Preetam, the co-incharge of publicity and literature department at the BJP head office, wrote a letter to the Delhi police commissioner in this respect. Later, the complaint was forwarded to the special cell and a team of elite police officials was formed to look into the matter. The team found out that accused Deepak obtained the SIM number on the basis of a fake driving license.
The police has lodged a case under relevant sections of the IPC. Further probe in the matter is on.
