European Union delegation takes tips from municipal body

As per Ms Sharma, the EDMC has been making consistent efforts towards better management of solid waste.

New Delhi: A delegation from European Union (EU) on Friday visited the East Delhi Municipal Corporation’s headquarters and discussed scientific and efficient ways of solid waste management.

Additional Commissioner Alka Sharma, chief engineer P.K. Khandelwal and other senior officials were also present during the meeting with the delegation. Team leader at Technical Cooperation for Environment in India, a Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Dr P. Karamanos led the delegation.

An EDMC official said that the aim of this meeting was to create an enabling environment between India and EU for efficient solid waste management in the country.

As per Ms Sharma, the EDMC has been making consistent efforts towards better management of solid waste and this meeting provided an insight about solid waste management in EU nations.

“It provided an opportunity to support and exchange best practices and local experiences between India and EU,” she said. The EDMC is committed towards Swachchh Bharat Mission and will adopt the techniques of solid waste management as per its resources.
