Northeast girl sacked after facing sexual abuse
The victim, who was disappointed by the behavior of her employer, decided to fight her battle alone and lodged a complaint.
New Delhi: A Northeast girl, who had been working at the house of a law official, was asked by her employer to quit her job after she complained of sexual harassment by a co-worker. The victim, who was disappointed by the behavior of her employer, decided to fight her battle alone and lodged a complaint at the Tughlak Road Police Station.
A senior police official confirmed the incident and said that they have arrested the accused, identified as Inderjeet. The official said that the accused also worked at the house of the law official at Prithvi Raj Road where the victim worked.
“The accused had been stalking the victim for long. He entered the victim’s room and asked for sexual favor, which made the victim angry. She rebuked him and asked him to leave her room. But instead of leaving the room, the accused attempted to remove her clothes. The girl somehow freed herself from his clutches and ran upstairs to the law official’s room. She narrated the whole story to her employer.
The victim had wanted to call her brother but was stopped by her employer, who said that action would be taken against the accused the next morning. However, the following day when the girl called her brother, her employer denied the incident. The girl’s complaint read that when she insisted to report the matter to the police, she was asked by her employer to quit her job.
“The victim finally lodged a complaint with the police, following which a case under relevant sections of the IPC was lodged. A woman police official recorded her statement. A team was sent to Prithvi Raj Road and the accused was arrested,” the official said. The victim has also said that she was harassed because she was a girl from the Northeast.
