Three CBI officials' were accompanied by a cop'.
New Delhi: Armed men impersonating themselves as CBI officials on Wednesday afternoon committed a robbery at a jeweller’s home in the Karol Bagh area of Central Delhi. One of the robbers was wearing a police uniform.
The robbers got access to the house after claiming themselves to be a CBI raiding team accompanied by a policeman. They held two women and a child hostage at gunpoint, tied their limbs and started ransacking the ground floor flat. But an unanticipated arrival of a member of the family at the main door forced the assailants to flee with only a mobile phone and some jewellery from one of the almirahs in the house. The family member saw the unidentified persons through a window and started screaming for help, the police said.
The crime took place at the house of Nawal Kishore Khandelwal, who owns a jewellery shop Chandni Chowk area. Khandelwal lives with his wife, two sons and their wives and grandson Divyansh in their Karol Bagh house.
On Wednesday afternoon, Khandelwal and his two sons, were at their shop. Varun’s wife Megha was at home with her son and mother-in-law while Mayank’s wife Preeti had gone out for some work.
Around 1.30 pm, a man in a police uniform rang the door bell and identified himself as a CBI official. Three more men who were with him told her that they had come to raid the house. Before Megha could understand anything, the four pushed her inside. “One of them put a pistol on the son’s head and threatened to kill him.” said a police officer.
While they started ransacking the lockers, Preeti returned and saw her family members held hostage inside. She raised an alarm and started screaming for help. The robbers panicked and fled the scene. They could not take away cash and other valuables kept in the house, the police said.
