New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to inspect rainwater harvesting systems (RHSs) installed inside Delhi University premises.

A bench headed by justice Jawad Rahim ordered the board to submit a status report on the rainwater in the varsity. Further it said that it should be apprises whether they were functioning satisfactorily or not.

“According to reports submitted by the Delhi University, the DJB has not carried out the inspection despite a notice issued by the tribunal So, the DJB is directed to conduct inspection and file report,” the bench, comprising expert member Ranjan Chatterjee, said.

During the hearing, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) told the green panel that the tender and work orders with regard to three schools, Primary Girl School at Chhatarpur Mandir, Prativa Bal Vidyalaya and Primary School at Rajpur Khurd, have been issued.

The lawyer representing the SDMC told the bench as per the work schedule, the SDMC requires three months to report the final status. The matter is now fixed for next hearing on September 18. The NGT had earlier told the Central Ground Water Authority and the DJB to inspect RHSs in private and government schools.
