30-year-old robbed off Rs 40 lakh by 'khaki man'

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man was allegedly robbed by a man wearing “khakhi clothes” who fled with two cash bags after threatening him, the police said on Sunday.

The victim, Thakor Ajit, (30) works at a shop in Naya Bazar, they said.

In his complaint, the victim stated that on September 25, on the directions of his boss, he along with his colleague Rakesh went to Barakhamba Road to get some articles from a contact person in a building at Hailey Road, the police said.

When the two reached the destination, they were handed over three bags by the contact person. When Ajit opened one of the bags, he found 80 bundles of 500 Indian currency notes which was approximately close to '40 lakh, a senior police official said.

The contact person told Ajit not to count the notes there and leave the spot immediately. Both Ajit and Rakesh left the building and took an auto for Fatehpuri, the officer said.

When they reached near Chatta Rail red light, a car approached towards them. A man with beard who was wearing Khaki clothes signalled them to stop and asked them what was inside the bag, the official added. Later, he asked the auto driver to park the vehicle at sideways as he wanted to check.

Meanwhile, Rakesh fled with one of the bags, the official said. When the “khaki man” got to know about the cash inside the bag, he threatened the victim to sit inside his car. He also snatched the victim’s phone and after crossing Hanuman Mandir flyover, the accused threw his phone and asked Ajit to get down from the car and fled towards Kashmiri Gate ISBT, the police said.

A case has been registered and efforts are being made to trace the culprits involved in the incident, they added.
