Congress likely to field young faces to win back Delhi
The party is likely to field a large number of young candidates along with some old guards for the state polls to be held early next year.
New Delhi: Gearing up for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the national capital, Congress has decided to give adequate representation to the young leaders in the ticket distribution. The party is likely to field a large number of young candidates along with some old guards for the state polls to be held early next year.
Confirming the development, newly appointed Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra, on Tuesday, said that party candidates should give adequate number of tickets to young Congress leaders.
“List of Congress candidates will have a right balance of experience and youth,” he added. Mr Chopra also denied any major reshuffle in the organisation. He said that right now there is no change in organisation, but hardworking Congress workers will be rewarded.
While addressing the media persons, he said that the party will give due respect to its hard working members. “We value hardworking party workers who have faith in Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi. They are the real organisation for us. There is no immediate plan to effect any organisational change,” he said.
In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Congress had failed to open its account. However, in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, the party managed to raise its vote percentage and pushed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to third place on five of the seven parliamentary seats in Delhi.
Mr Chopra asserted that Congress will spring a surprise at its political adversaries. “Just wait and see what happens in the coming days. We will do something which you cannot imagine right now,” he told reporters.
The Delhi Congress president also said that he will “expose” the ruling BJP at the Centre and the AAP government in the national capital on the promises made by them to the people.
Chief of Delhi Congress’ election campaign committee Kirti Azad, former PCC presidents J.P. Agarwal and Arvinder Singh Lovely, former MP Sandip Dikshit, working president Rajesh Lilothia, and many other senior leaders were present during Mr Chopra’s interaction with the media. Mr Azad hit out at BJP and AAP accusing them of “neglecting” the interests of people of Purvanchal in Delhi.
