3 on bike drag woman from auto, flee with bag

New Delhi: A 39-year-old beautician, a native of Darjeeling, was dragged a few meters from an autorickshaw and sustained critical injuries after she was attacked by three bike-borne miscreants in a bid to rob her in broad daylight. The incident took place at the busy Moolchand flyover in Defence Colony on Tuesday noon.
The police said that Sharmila Rai, a resident of Sanwal Nagar, was on her way to Connaught Place for shopping along with her husband, Rakesh Rai, a chef in IIC, and her nephew, Gaurav. The incident took place around 3.45 pm on Tuesday.
In his complaint to the police, the complainant, Rakesh, said: “As the autorickshaw reached the Moolchand flyover, three men on a Pulsar came next to the autorickshaw and tried to snatch Sharmila’s bag. While resisting their attempt, she lost her balance owing to a sudden jerk which resulted into her fall from the running autorickshaw.
While the snatchers managed to flee the spot along with the bag, Sharmila sustained critical injuries on her head, hand, and face. She was rushed to the Hospital where she is undergoing treatment and is said to be responding to the treatment. Special teams have been formed to nab the fleeing assailants and a case is registered at the Defence Colony police station in this connection.
