School van overturns in Mangolpuri, 7 kids hurt

New Delhi: A school van carrying about 15 children toppled in Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Tuesday morning leaving seven children injured. The van met with an accident at Kanjhawal Road after it allegedly hit the central median and toppled.

According to the police, the accident took place at about 7.45 am. The driver had overloaded the vehicle. As the private van was heading towards Rohini’s Sector 22 Kendriya Vidyalaya and had reached furniture market on Kanjhawala Road, a traffic policeman tried to stop the van. The driver allegedly sped and in order to avoid collision with an autorickshaw, the van allegedly hit the divider and toppled. As a result, the Eeco van dragged for a few meters before coming to a halt. Some children had a miraculous escape. The timely intervention by the locals helped the children to evacuate the vehicle. As per one of the witnesses, the children were in a state of shock.
