Nagpur: Car slams into hut; woman, 6-month-old baby dead

The driver of the car -- who was not identified by the police -- lost control and it rammed into Vanadevi slum.

Nagpur: A car belonging to a Shiv Sena corporator rammed into a hut, killing a woman and her six months old grand-daughter, in Nagpur on Saturday evening, police said.

The incident occurred at 5.30 pm.

The deceased were identified as Ayesha Taj Mohd (6 months) and her grand-mother Islambi Sheikh Mohd (60).

Five other persons in the hut were injured. The driver of the car -- who was not identified by the police -- lost control and it rammed into Vanadevi slum under Yashodhara Nagar police station limits, police said.

A police officer said that the car belonged to the sitting Shiv Sena corporator Bandu Talvekar and was being used for the campaign of his wife Surekha Talvekar who is contesting the civic election as a Sena-supported candidate.

Both the husband and wife were not in the car at the time of incident, police said.
